If the ac unit is not sealed correctly the moisture in the air coming in from outside gets condensed by the cold air inside the unit and this extra moisture builds up in ac unit and then leaks. The circulation fan blade is fitted with a slinger ring that picks up water from the drain pan and slings it against the condenser coils. Water is produced as a byproduct of the cooling system and typically drains away from the house through a hose or pipe. This is a low tech method to drain a portable ac with a drain hose too close to the ground to allow easy draining.

Coolant leak if your danby air conditioner is leaking coolant or refrigerant gas the unit should be removed from your home immediately. Often water leaking is a result of water in the drain pipe building up instead of being dispersed by the condenser. If you notice water spitting from the outdoor side of your wall or window mounted air conditioner don t worry it s normal. If however your danby air conditioner is leaking water outside of the system or it is leaking coolant there are a few things you should consider.

This happens when the drip hole at the end of the condensate tray gets clogged. The spitting water coming from an ac unit is due to the slinger ring that collects water present in the drain pan and splashes it to the coils for cooling purposes. My jug method does the trick simply. Check the defrost drain to determine if it is clogged or frozen.

In order to prevent this simply add a tablespoon of bleach twice a year to the tray. These coils have the tendency to get hot and at risk of overheating and splashing water over them prevents that problem. If water appears and starts dripping into your room again check to see if the ac unit is properly sealed in the window. A clogged condensate drain line is the most common cause of water leaking from your ac into your home.

These coils get hot because the refrigerant inside is being compressed by the condenser prior to entering the evaporative coils. If the defrost drain is frozen thaw the ice.
